Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
MangaTrackr (“we”, “our”, “us”) provides a specialized web browser and companion apps for reading and tracking manga on third-party websites you choose to visit. Like other browsers (e.g. Brave, Chrome, Safari), we do not operate the websites you browse; we provide software that displays them and optional tools layered on top.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we process when you use the MangaTrackr desktop app, mobile app, optional cloud sync, and the website mangatrackr.com. By using the Service, you acknowledge this policy.
For the rules governing use of the Service, see our Terms of Service.

3. What we process and why
The table below summarises the main categories of personal data, why we use them, and the legal basis under the GDPR (where it applies).
- Account & sync (email, auth ID, synced library, profile) — Contract (to provide the Service you sign up for) and Legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention).
- Community content (comments, reactions, display name) — Contract and Legitimate interests (moderation, safety).
- Push notifications (device token) — Consent (you enable notifications).
- In-app advertising (mobile free tier: chapter-transition banner impressions; no Android Advertising ID in our native code) — Legitimate interests (funding the free tier) and, where required, Consent for optional ad-network cookies inside the isolated ad WebView.
- Translation overlay (image regions, detected text, usage/credits metadata) — Contract (when you request translation) and Legitimate interests (technical cache, fraud prevention).
- Paid features (subscription status, receipts, credit balance) — Contract and Legal obligation (tax/accounting where applicable).
- Support & diagnostics (bug reports, error logs you trigger) — Legitimate interests (fixing failures) and, where you contact us, Contract.
- Optional AniList (OAuth tokens) — Consent (you connect the integration).
We do not use your data for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you.
4. Legal bases (EEA / UK)
Where GDPR applies, we rely on one or more of the following legal bases, as described in Section 3:
- Contract — processing necessary to provide the Service you request.
- Legitimate interests — security, abuse prevention, compatibility fixes, and proportionate improvement of the Service, balanced against your rights.
- Consent — optional features such as push notifications and AniList. You may withdraw consent in settings or by contacting us.
- Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose data under applicable law (e.g. accounting).
5. Information stored on your device (browser data)
Most browsing-related data stays on your device, similar to a conventional browser:
- Your manga library (series URLs, titles, chapter lists, reading progress)
- Bookmarks and in-app browsing history
- Settings (theme, reader options, content filter preference, privacy level, tracker blocking preferences)
- Local cache (page assets, cover images) for performance
- Cookies and site storage from websites you visit through the in-app browser
- Passwords you save in the built-in manager (stored via your OS keychain / platform secure storage)
Guest mode (mobile): you can read and manage a local library without an account. Library data remains on your device until you sign in, migrate it to an account, or clear app data. Cloud sync, community posting, and push notifications require an account.
6. Cloud sync (optional account)
If you create an account, selected data syncs to our backend on Supabase (hosted in the EU — Stockholm, Sweden, region eu-north-1). This may include:
- Email address and authentication identifiers (Supabase Auth)
- Synced library, reading progress, and per-series settings
- Bookmarks and browsing history (only if you enable sync)
- Profile fields you provide (display name, avatar)
- Community content you post (comments, reactions, follows)
- Basic account statistics (e.g. series count, reading activity)
Row-level security limits access to your own account data except community content you choose to make visible.
Optional catalog sharing (opt-in, default off)
Your personal library URLs stay private unless you explicitly enable Share my chapter discoveries in settings (default: off). When enabled, you choose to contribute metadata only to help other users find chapters:
- Series page URL, title, cover URL (if available), and chapter link list we already parsed while you read
- No manga page images, panel text, or translated overlay content
- No sharing of your private notes, ratings, or reading progress unless covered elsewhere in this policy
You can turn sharing off at any time; new contributions stop immediately. We do not operate a public manga host or search engine for pirated files — only optional, user-contributed link metadata for the in-app catalog.
7. Push notifications (mobile, optional)
If you enable notifications, we store a device push token linked to your account to deliver chapter or community alerts you opt into. Delivery uses Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and/or Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) via Expo. Disable anytime in app or device settings.
8. Translation overlay (on your request only)
The optional translation overlay works like built-in page translation in browsers such as Google Chrome: you initiate it; the original page on the third-party site is not modified, republished, or hosted by us.
When you request translation for a page or panel:
- Image regions and detected text may be sent to our servers and subprocessors (including Google Gemini for OCR/translation and cloud compute providers) solely to produce overlay text and visual hints for your session.
- Results are rendered as a temporary overlay in your app. We do not operate a manga hosting service or make translated pages available to the public.
- We may store hash-keyed technical cache (detection geometry, assembled overlay blocks, and inpaint patches tied to an image fingerprint) so the same view is not re-processed every time you re-read a chapter. This cache is for performance, not a content catalogue, and is not shared with other users as readable manga. Retention periods are listed in Section 19.
- Translation memory stores normalised source phrases and their translations (text only, not linked to your account or a specific series) to reuse common lines across sessions. This is permanent technical data unless removed by our retention tools or account deletion workflows.
You are responsible for ensuring you may use translation on the content you view. Do not use the overlay to redistribute or publish translated works.
If you use translation credits or usage limits, we process related account metadata to enforce those limits.
9. AniList connection (optional)
If you connect AniList, we store OAuth tokens and AniList profile identifiers needed to sync list data you request. You can disconnect in settings; tokens are deleted when you remove the connection or delete your account.
10. Diagnostics and support
We may process limited technical data to keep the browser working:
- Bug reports you submit (description, optional steps, device/app info, account ID if signed in)
- URL or domain reports you submit when a site fails to load or scrape in-app
- Automatic error logs for failed series URLs (URL, domain, error message) to fix compatibility — without selling this data or using it for advertising
11. Community features
If you use social features, we store the content you post (comments, reactions) and related metadata (timestamps, moderation reports). Other users see only what the feature exposes by design.
12. In-app advertising (mobile free tier)
On the mobile app, users who are not on an ad-free plan (such as Premium or Boost) may see a banner advertisement when advancing between chapters in the built-in reader. This is separate from the third-party manga pages you choose to visit.
- Ads are loaded in an isolated in-app WebView from dedicated endpoints on mangatrackr.com (for example
/ads/chapter-banner-mobile.html). They do not replace or overlay manga page content. - We use a third-party ad network (Adsterra) to serve these banners. That network may use cookies or similar web technologies inside the ad WebView only. We do not control Adsterra’s practices; their policy applies to data processed in that context.
- Our native mobile app code does not read or transmit the Android Advertising ID or Apple IDFA. We do not integrate AdMob, Firebase Analytics, or similar advertising/analytics SDKs for this purpose.
- We do not inject ads or ad trackers into third-party manga sites you browse. On the contrary, the app includes tools to block many third-party site ads and trackers.
- Premium / Boost / active subscription: ad-free reading in the mobile reader.
The desktop app and the public mangatrackr.com marketing pages do not show these chapter-transition ads.
13. Paid features (Premium and translation credits)
MangaTrackr may offer optional paid features on supported platforms:
- MangaTrackr Premium — a subscription (ad-free experience and related subscriber benefits). Where available, billing is handled by Apple App Store or Google Play; we do not collect or store your payment card details.
- Translation credits — consumable purchases used when you run the translation overlay beyond included allowances. Where available, purchase and receipt validation go through Apple/Google platform billing.
We process subscription status, purchase receipts, credit balances, and usage metadata needed to deliver what you paid for and prevent abuse. Refunds follow the platform’s policies unless otherwise required by law.
Platform note: paid purchase flows may roll out on a platform after its initial store release. Until purchases are enabled on your platform, the free tier (including optional chapter advertising on mobile) applies.
14. What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal data
- We do not publish your library URLs to the community catalog unless you opt in to sharing (default off)
- We do not host manga pages, images, or translated chapters for public download
- We do not show behavioural advertising on the public mangatrackr.com marketing website (download pages, FAQ, legal documents)
- We do not use the Android Advertising ID or Apple IDFA in our native app code
- We do not inject third-party advertising trackers into manga pages you browse (and we offer tracker-blocking tools)
- We do not collect payment card data in-app (paid features use Apple/Google platform billing when enabled)
15. Third-party websites and services
Websites you visit through MangaTrackr may collect data under their own policies. We do not control those sites. Privacy tools (cookie blocking, HTTPS-only mode, fingerprint protection, Do Not Track) are configurable in the app.
Subprocessors we use to run the Service may include Supabase (hosting/auth), Expo (mobile infrastructure and push delivery), Google (Gemini OCR/translation), Apple (APNs, App Store billing), Google Play billing (when enabled), Adsterra (mobile chapter banner ads in isolated WebViews), AniList (optional integration), Modal (cloud compute for translation pipeline), and Loopia (website hosting) — only when you use features that require them.
16. This website (mangatrackr.com)
Our public marketing site is a static landing page (download links and legal documents). We do not use analytics cookies or behavioural advertising on those pages. Dedicated /ads/ endpoints exist solely to serve in-app mobile chapter banners inside the app WebView; they are not used for marketing-site ad slots.
Our host (Loopia) may retain standard server logs (IP, user agent, URL) for security.
17. App permissions (mobile)
The mobile app may request or use the following platform permissions:
- Internet / network access — required to load manga sites, sync your account, deliver translation, and load chapter banner ads for free-tier users.
- Notifications (optional) — only if you enable push alerts for new chapters or community activity. You can deny or revoke this in device settings.
- Background refresh (where supported) — optional checks for new chapters when background fetch is enabled.
- File / document access (when you use it) — importing local manga archives you select.
We do not request location, contacts, microphone, camera, or Android Advertising ID (AD_ID) permissions in our app configuration.
18. Data collection summary (app store disclosures)
This section summarises data practices to help you understand what MangaTrackr collects. It aligns with our Google Play Data safety and Apple privacy disclosures.
- Personal info (optional account): email address, user ID, display name/username, profile avatar if you add one.
- App activity: reading library, progress, bookmarks, optional browsing history (if sync enabled), in-app settings, community posts and reactions.
- Photos / images (on request): manga panel regions you ask us to translate are sent to our servers and subprocessors; we do not access your device photo roll unless you explicitly import files.
- Device or other IDs (optional): push notification token if you enable notifications.
- Diagnostics: failed URL compatibility reports and support information you submit.
- Financial info: we do not collect payment card numbers; platform purchase receipts and credit balances are processed only when paid features are enabled on your platform.
- Location, contacts, health, precise device advertising ID: not collected by our native app.
Most account-linked data is stored in the EU (Sweden). Translation processing may involve subprocessors in other countries as described in Section 23. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). You can delete your account in-app or contact us to exercise GDPR rights.
19. Retention and deletion
Delete your account: signed-in users can delete their account in the mobile or desktop app under Settings → Delete account. This removes synced cloud data linked to your account. You may also email support@mangatrackr.com to request deletion if you cannot access the app.
- Local data: until you uninstall or clear app data.
- Account data: while your account is active; you may delete your account in-app, after which we delete or anonymise synced personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain records by law.
- Translation memory (normalized source text → translation pairs, no image link): retained until manually removed or you delete your account; not tied to a specific manga page.
- Geometry cache (bubble/text detection shapes, no readable translation): deleted if unused for 180 days, or after 365 days maximum regardless of use.
- Overlay cache (assembled translation blocks per image): deleted if unused for 30 days, or after 90 days maximum.
- Inpaint / patch cache (erased bubble patches in storage): deleted if unused for 7 days, or after 30 days maximum.
- Support logs: as long as needed to resolve issues, then deleted or aggregated.
20. Your rights (GDPR / EEA)
You may have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object, and port your data, and to withdraw consent where processing is consent-based.
We respond to verified requests within one month (extendable by two months for complex requests, as permitted by the GDPR). Use in-app controls where available, or email support@mangatrackr.com.
You may lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY): imy.se, or with your local supervisory authority in the EEA/UK.
21. Security
We use HTTPS for network traffic, Supabase Auth for credentials, row-level security on account data, and platform secure storage (for example Expo Secure Store) for session tokens on mobile. No system is perfectly secure; we apply reasonable industry practices.
22. Children and age requirements
The Service is not directed at children and is not part of Google Play’s Designed for Families programme. You must be at least 13 years old (or the higher minimum age required in your country) to create an account or use community features. The app includes a content filter (default: family-friendlier catalogue) and an optional “All Content” setting for adults who choose broader discover results; third-party manga sites may contain mature material regardless of filter.
We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below the applicable minimum age. Contact us to request deletion if you believe a child has provided data.
23. International transfers
Primary account and sync data is processed in the EU (Sweden) on Supabase. When you use translation overlay, image regions may be processed by subprocessors such as Google Gemini and cloud compute providers that may operate in the United States or other countries. Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA/UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as EU Standard Contractual Clauses) where required by law.
24. Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date will change. For material changes we will notify you by email to the address linked to your account (and may also highlight changes in-app or on this page) before they take effect where required by law.
